Who We Are
- The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (abbreviated IEEE) is an international non-profit, professional organization for the advancement of technology related to electricity. It has the most members of any technical professional organization in the world, with more than 395,000 members in around 150 countries
- Here at NYIT - Old Westbury, the IEEE student chapter offers students the opportunity to make their ideas a reality. We do this by incorporating student ideas into projects to benefit our knowledge, the campus, and society. We also participate in Competitions that enable us to showcase the skills that are learned and developed from our education.
- We are composed of students in many different majors such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, IT, and Mechanical Engineering. We invite you to join us to create and learn.
- NYIT IEEE's main focus is building robots to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition. Every year, our team comes up with original designs and spends the year building two robots that will compete in the annual VEX Robotics Challenge. While VEX is our main focus, the club does work on other projects to help improve the skills of all members, new and current, who want to build robots other than ones for competition.
Our Meetings
- NYIT IEEE has its official meetings every Tuesday and Thursday during free hour (12:45 PM - 2:10 PM) in room B16 in Harry J. Schure Hall. We have general meetings two days out of the week, with our team constantly in the club room thinking of new designs to optimize the robots and get them into the best shape they can be for the upcoming competitions.
